We are happy to announce a hands-on, interactive workshop for developers interested in understanding the different open source search technologies available to implement search systems for biological data resources.Ìý The workshop is organised and sponsored by the BioSolr team and will have a maximum of 40 participants.
The workshop will be hosted at the ÀÖÌìÌÃÓÎÏ·ÍøÕ¾ on the 3rd/4th February 2016 in Cambridge, UK. The program will cover two major open-source technology frameworks,Ìý Apache Lucene/Solr and Elasticsearch. The speakers will include Grant Ingersoll, CTO, Lucidworks;ÌýEric Pugh, Principal, OpenSource Connections, LLC and presentations from the Flax team, EBI and others who have implemented query systems for biomedical data resources.
Is it for me?
Do you (plan to) develop query systems for biomedical data or are interested in understanding how the open source technologies such as Apache Lucene/Solr and Elasticsearch work? If so, then this workshop is for you! In the workshop, you will learn from the experts and also hear about the experiences of different biomedical data providers. There will also be time for hands-on work where experienced developers will try to help you with your specific needs.
How can I apply?
E-mail Sameer Velankar (sameer AT ebi.ac.uk) at PDBe with the subject line "Application for the open source search for bioinformatics workshop" no later than 20 November 2015 with the following details:
- a brief description of the software you have developed or are developing i.e. what it does, in which field, how many users, relevant publications, etc.
- how you would benefit from this workshop.
- any specific topics or questions you would like to see addressed in the workshop.
If the workshop is oversubscribed, we will select participants based on the information provided.Ìý You will be informed by the end of November if you have been selected or not, or whether you are on the standby list.
Prerequisites?
Basic understanding of the search frameworksÌý Apache Lucene/Solr and/or Elasticsearch Bring your own laptop with Apache Lucene/Solr or Elasticsearch pre-installed if you want to follow the hands-on tutorial and examples
