The apoptosome, which comprises 16 molecules of the Dark protein, facilitates autocatalytic activation of caspase, which starts the process of apoptosis, or cell death.
This apoptosome structure was solved by cryo-EM at 4Ã… resolution and, along with the atomic model fitted into the map, is published by Pang et al. in Genes & Development.
